Erich Anderer, MD

Dr. Erich Anderer is Chief of Neurosurgery at NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn. He was born in Japan and grew up in NYC where he attended Columbia University for college and medical school. He did residency and a combined neurosurgery/orthopedic spine surgery fellowship at NYU. Although his practice encompasses everything from simple to complex spine surgery, he is also passionate about promoting yoga and other modalities to help his patients avoid surgery if possible. He has spoken at the Yoga and Science conference at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, as well as the inaugural Wellspring conference hosted by Wanderlust. He was a professional musician in NYC prior to becoming a physician, and still performs occasionally. He is active with multiple organizations, serving on the boards of the NY State Neurosurgical Society, the Japanese Medical Society of America, and as board chair of the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two children.
